. . . yesterday was
one anniversary
I forgot
completely spaced it out
until
a video caught my eye today
of Mt. St. Helen’s
blowing up
and I recalled that May 18, 1980 day clearly
after getting married the day before
with lots of friends and family present
and lots of booze and gifts and acoustic guitar music
and the ever-present marijuana which
he of course had to light up right outside the church
but no honeymoon cuz
he was too cheap and
no wedding ring
cuz he was too cheap so
I accommodated his tight-wad streak by agreeing to
take my own ring off my right hand
so Mr. Miserly could slip it on my left hand for the ceremony
while he promised to buy one for me later but
that never happened
and I should have known
when the west coast mountain exploded
leaving ash on the streets and cars
way the hell over here on the east side of the Rockies
that our marriage was going to be as tumultuous
and it was and was
OVER
in less than 7 years but not before
three (3) little boys were born in less than 40 months
and I was by then
tired and worn
and did not realize the enormity of the fact that
he was just NOT THAT INTO
ME . . .
but I was reminded today!
